Sabotage Attempt Overcome

Reading!

A Siddha Yoga Tea-Bagger tried to sabotage our gathering last week by calling the restaurant and telling them the event was canceled. Well, we got wind of the plot and set things straight, and the evening was a resounding success. Sorry, tea-baggers, right-wing fundamentalists whose beliefs are threatened just because I have written a story that is absolutely accurate to my experience.

Here are some more photos, all in the wrong order!

Wow! What a bunch of brats! I see them on Facebook talking about themselves in the most holier than thou way and look at me. Nothing worse than spiritual arrogance. Looks like a great time was had. Congrats!

Oh, Marta, Marta, Marta.

You know as well as I do that MOST SY'ers and ex-SY'ers are just as left-leaning liberal as you are.

There are indeed those among us who have left SY and while we ARE conservative republicans, are NOT "tea-baggers" and NOT fundamentalists. I am one such person and have been supportive of your efforts and your writing all the way.

I just don't think it's fair to label those SY'ers and identify them with people like me. Frankly, Marta, it's hurtful and IMHO, truly uncalled for namecalling.

When you posted your plans to hold the event at the restaurant, I actually wondered at the time, "OK, what are the SY people going to do to try and sabotage Marta's plans THIS time?" And obviously, what I expected happened. I'm glad you were able to catch their shenanigans in time, and hold the event.

But seeing these political labels here, when you have supporters rooting for you on BOTH sides of the political aisle...well, it's just hurtful.

I sure hope you'll be willing to respond and comment back.

I meant no disrespect to Republicans in general. I meant disrespect to tea-baggers of every stripe. A tea-bagger to me is a fundamentalist. You don't sound like a fundamentalist. And I appreciate your support.

Dear Marta,

I appreciate your sincere reply and am glad you were not referring to me and folks of my ilk.

Nonetheless, being a conservative republican, despite not bothering to attend any of this spring and summer's "tea parties", while I don't agree with vehemence and vitriol on either side of the aisle, I at least UNDERSTAND why the people who did attend those events are angry. At least, from my interpretation, it largely comes from worry for the future of the U.S. Sure, there were fringe nutjobs at those events who were vitriolic, racist, frothing at the mouth conservatives...but by the same token, during the last administration, equally vitriolic, frothing at the mouth folks on the left attended events like the protests of the G-8 nations and/or Code Pink type events. My point being, there are "tea-bagger" types on both sides.

And frankly, I find the term "tea-bagger" offensive given the sexual nature of the slang. A well-known prime time anchor on CNN popularized the term and it took off. I still think, though, that given the nature of that anchor's attempt at humor due to the term's sexual connotation, it's a pretty offensive usage.

Maybe I'm over-thinking this, and it's your blog and yours to do with anyway, so regardless of my feedback, you can do whatever you want with regards to it. I simply find the term kind of ugly.

Just IMHO.
Wishing you continued success!

Interesting, had no idea about the sexual meaning -- did my google research and learned! Remember, I spent years in an ashram! I'm still catching up! Anyway, I think I've explained everything else. Appreciate your thoughts. m

Seen in the comments on a recent story about Texas revising the story of the United States and the World:

"This is another prime example of how dangerous the TEABIGOT movement really is."

I think it's apt.

I do not understand your use of the word "teabagger." It is a crude sexual slur used to demean the tea party members and a very juvenille way to express your disagreement with the group's politics.

That you spent your youth sheltered in an ashram is not an excuse. You are a writer and should not throw around pop culture phrases or insults without knowing their context.

And also, what do right wing politics have to do with people defending Siddha Yoga?
